The Sun Is Yellow, by Květa Pacovská

If you do not know of Květa Pacovská, let me introduce her to you.  She is a native of Prague (one of my favorite cities), and an illustrator and author of books for children. The art in her books borders on the abstract, with spare text that is sometimes hand-lettered and childlike.  Her books expand the boundaries of page and image, with shapes and forms and colors that literally move or spread to various spaces within the book. Her new book is The Sun Is Yellow,  a book about colors, with flaps to lift, wheels to turn (volvelles), cut-outs to look through, and doors to open.  In 1992, Pacovská received the Hans Christian Andersen Award, an international award for “lasting contribution to children’s literature.”
